I read Kaufman's book in a graduate class on assessment and intelligence testing. I still refer to it whenever I have unusual test scores with a WISC-III. It explains in a comprehensive and clear manner how a competent psychologist should interpret the WISC-III. It is worth every penny.

An Amazing Must-Read!!

Until I started reading "The Early Sessions" I never realized how much information was missing from "The Seth Material". In retrospect "The Seth Material" is a massively abridged survey of the material that leaves out a tremendous amount of good information. To put things in perspective: "The Early Sessions" is a nine-volume work containing the first 510 sessions that "The Seth Material" was based on. Book 1 has 42 sessions and is 432 pages versus the 333 pages of "The Seth Material".

With "The Seth Material" being such a pioneering publication it's easy to understand a certain amount of editorial discretion. However, I also believe that Jane omitted a lot of the material just because it didn't sit well with her - specifically things like reincarnation and karmic bonds (to use conventional phrasing). I had always wondered why Seth had so little to say on topics like that - it turns out he said plenty! I'm so glad Rob arranged for the release of the unabridged material.

If you're new to Seth then just skip "The Seth Material" and start here for mind-blowing yet entirely approachable and coherent look at the true nature of life, reality, and consciousness.

An excellent start for Jane Roberts' journey

I purchased this book of Jane Robert's beginning contacts with Seth as a Kindle edition, having owned all of the volumes in this set in paperback since they were first published. This book, as all volumes in the Seth saga, is so enlightening that, once you begin reading, you can't put it down because the information imparted by Seth is too monumental to ignore and can, in fact, help you to make informed changes to create and understand your own reality. I would suggest getting acquainted with Jane/Seth through "Seth Speaks" and then "The Nature of Personal Reality," two volumes that have helped me to make incredible changes in my own life. I own all of Jane's books; I've been reading and re-reading them for almost 40 years and continue to find new understandings and develop new ways of perceiving my reality each time I do. No one has ever written anything like this--not even close

This is another astonishing book from Jane Roberts. To me, it's rather alarming that Jane Roberts is not considered the most remarkable person who's ever lived. How could one ask for anything more than the extraordinary revelations that occur on page after page after page of her books? No one has ever written anything like this--not even close. It's entirely, utterly unique.
Years ago, I read her second Seth book, The Nature of Personal Reality, 17 times. It's a 500 page book, so I became well acquainted with Seth's ideas. I also read Seth Speaks 4 times and all the rest of the Seth books at least twice, However, it was only recently that I discovered the Early Sessions, and I have to say that Book 1 of the Seth Sessions is as good as anything that Jane Roberts has ever done. It's so fascinating to see how the sessions began! And also, the subject matter of the Early Sessions is not exactly the same as the Seth books. It's somewhat new territory, and as usual, Seth leaves me in a state of wonder and a kind of intellectual ecstasy as he describes all the wonderful possibilities that are available to each individual.
Also, as I read this book, I considered, for the first time, the following question: Is Seth real--that is, an independent being--or is he a part of Jane Roberts's subconscious? Rather surprisingly, I never really considered this question before--I guess it was because I didn't really care where Seth's words originated. What difference does it make where such insights and revelations come from? But...if Seth is real, this would be the first definitive proof that there is life after death. And if Seth isn't real? This is the fallback position of all the naysayers who routinely assume that Seth has somehow been manufactured by Jane Roberts. After all, if it could be proven that Seth is a real person who resides outside this earthly reality, then the naysayers would vanish in a millionth of a second and be reading the Seth books like they were the Holy Grail.
But the naysayers, ever so sure of their dubious logic, still have to answer one question: If Seth isn't real, where did Jane Roberts ever come up with what's contained in the Seth books??? These books contain knowledge that has never been discovered by any human being, and the idea that the profound insights in the Seth books came from Jane Roberts's subconscious is truly ludicrous. So where did this constant stream of revelations come from, if not from Seth?
Among the many things I got out of this book was the growing realization that Seth may be exactly who he says he is: An energy personality essence no longer focused in physical reality.

Great product, great price!

I bought this for a quick reference in my beginning Spanish class, it's comprehensive enough to refer to it quickly for anything to do with my homework, class activities and so forth. It's easy to use and I have bought these for French as well. I use it all the time, I highly recommend these for quick reminders or even quick lessons if you miss something.

Branden, who has already explored issues of self-esteem in The Psychology of Self-Esteem , LJ 2/1/70, and How To Raise Your Self-Esteem, LJ 3/15/87, argues that acquiring high self-esteem is essential to a person's survival in the world. His core assertions are believable enough , but he does not outline the six pillars until well into the book, which is too late to hook the reader. Ultimately, this is a repetitive, verbose, and somewhat rambling book. Better choices would be Richard Bednar's more scholarly Self-Esteem: Paradoxes and Innovations in Clinical Theory and Practice (American Psychological Assn., 1989) or, for public libraries, Matthew McKay, Self-Esteem (New Harbinger, 1992). Branden practically invented the concept of self-esteem and was probably most responsible for promoting it in this country. His latest book is another solid effort that builds on his previous work. He defines the titular pillars as living consciously, self-acceptance, self-responsibility, self-assertiveness, living purposefully, and personal integrity, and he describes not only their importance but how to practice them. He also looks at self-esteem within the contexts of school, work, psychotherapy, and culture and how to develop it within each. His is a balanced book--part theory, part social commentary, part self-help--that is clear, well researched, and well grounded, a valuable, credible addition to the psychological self-help shelves. Thorough

Nathaniel Branden's work is comprehensive. The book is broken down into 3 Parts:

Part I - Self Esteem Basic Principles. This frames the remainder of the book and gives context to definitions, and what good Self Esteem Produces in a person. Self Esteem consists of Self Efficacy (confindence in the functioning of our mind) and Self Respect....5 STAR

Part II - Internal Sources of Self Esteem. This covers the 6 Pillars of self Esteem; Living Conciously, Self Acceptance, Self Responsibility, Self Assertiveness, Living Purposefully, and Personal Integrity....Excellent information that can be applied directly to the 'self' or taught to others...5 STAR

Part III - External Influences: Self and Others. This covers external things that may influence our 'self' to include schools, work, and culture. This is where your head may begin to crook sideways a bit. The focus of Part III became almost argumentative in nature and veered away from the theme's in Part II. It is almost as if Branden is on a personal agenda to dismantle politics, organized cultures, and especially religion in the name of preserving the 'self'. It is as if his life long work on Self Esteem becomes his religion that he believes should be adopted by industry, schools, and society. A little distracting, but take what applies. However, the piece on Nurturing a Childs Self Esteem in this section is very good....2 STAR.

I recommend the book - many other 'Self Help' books are off-shoots to his core lessons on self esteem. Most social and personal issues can be traced back to self esteem in some way, and after reading this book, you'll really understand this. It was personally beneficial for me and I will apply many of the lessons to my family.

Too Long But Useful

I'm torn between 3 stars and 5 stars. I think I'll go with 3 stays, because the material is amazing but very difficult to get through. I wish it was more clear and concise, so that the reader would get through it quicker and began to practice it in their daily life.

The first half of the book is life changing. I bolted through it in a few hours. It gave me a realization that pulled me out of a 9 month on and off depression. Since reviewing some of the material whenever I feel down, along with other resources, it gave me insight and clarity in my life that has sustained joy in the past 3 months. I hope it continues. The most significant part that brought me to awareness was his quote about his dog, that I have shared with many others. He says his dog is focused on enjoying the outdoors, chasing squirrels and sniffing flowers, not worried at all about being "happier" than the other dogs. I don't know if it impacts others the way it did for me, because it was incredibly applicable to my own situation. I realized the significance and potential of this book to impact my life after reading that, and began taking notes seriously.

The second half of the book, in contrast to the first half... took quite a while to finish. It was dry, convoluted, and many of the same ideas are restated. It's his observations, theories and philosophy, and not really applicable to me. I finished it at last today. Just read the first half where it introduces the concept of self esteem, and MAYBE the last few pages on "The Seventh Pillar" and the appendices.

Eye-opening

As someone who is pretty self-aware but only just now dabbling into my deeper issues (self-esteem being my core struggle), I found this book to be supremely helpful. It offered me a ton of AHA! moments on how I relate to myself and others. It put into perspective that self-esteem isn't the prize at the end of treatment or work -- it's the actual work you do.

Though sometimes the writing style is difficult to understand the first read through (sometimes I have to go back and reread a sentence), I really like how the author compares low self-esteem thinking with what your thinking should be to secure your healthy self-esteem. It's helped me do better personally and professionally.
