David Werner es un activista con muchos años de experiencia en los temas del cuidado de la salud y la rehabilitación a nivel comunitario. Ha trabajado en más de 50 países ayudando a facilitar talleres de salud y programas de capacitación y ha sido consejero para la UNICEF, la OMS, la UNDP y el Cuerpo de Paz.
Carol Thuman, RN, FNP, MS, trabaja para el Centro Médico del Condado de Alameda y se especializa en el cuidado de la salud de las mujeres.

May be the best book of its kind!

This manual of instruction for lay persons called upon to treat medical problems in the absence of a professional is, to my knowledge, the best source of information for people who read Spanish. I recently gave copies to each of three Mayan families of my acquaintance in rural Guatemala--all of which include one or more family members who read Spanish. And I have suggested to executives of the NGO through which we are connected to make copies of this manual available to all other sponsors for distribution to other such families--at a discounted price, I hope, as $24 is steep. We are talking about thousands of families in a Guatemala alone, though there are many other countries served by this NGO. There are other books in this series, which address the particular medical issues of women, for example, as well one about dental problems. These books have been translated into many other languages.

A must have if you want to learn medical spanish!

Great! A must have if you want to learn medical spanish! I also personally find it awesome because it emphasizes cultural competence of folk medicine and teaches what those practices are! (for central america atleast).
Its intended audience is for medical practitioners (folk healers and trained practioners alike) who are practicing medicine in rural latin america with scare resources and no hospital (or doctor, as the title suggests) in sight.

Essential For Charity or Missions Workers

This is outstanding basic health care book for charity volunteers or missions workers in Latin America. I bought the Spanish edition the first time when I was living in Mexico, read it myself, loaned it to Church volunteers, and used it in a supplemental health class in adult education here in the U.S.
It's practical, compassionate, and understandable to nearly any literate person. A little Biology or Nursing background helps, but it is really great for anyone who would work in a rural setting.
I recommend it!
