About the Author
Eric J. Simon is an associate professor in the Department of Biology and Health Science at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire. He teaches introductory biology to science majors and non-science majors, as well as upper-level courses in genetics, microbiology, tropical marine biology, and molecular biology. Dr. Simon received a B.A. in biology and computer science and an M.A. in biology from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Harvard University. His research focuses on innovative ways to use technology to improve teaching and learning in the science classroom, particularly for non-science majors. Dr. Simon is the lead author of Campbell Essential Biology and Campbell Essential Biology with Physiology as well as coauthor of Campbell Concepts and Connections.

Well-organized and easy to understand introductory book

I purchased this book because it was a requirement for a class, and I was happy to have found it at a much cheaper price than what they were selling it for at the college bookstore.
This is a decent introduction to Biology, the information is well-organized into meaningful chapters. It doesn't go into a lot of depth, so I would recommend this book to anyone who either is required to purchase it or for someone who wants a basic overview of biological concepts. If you are already familiar with the basics, you might want to look into a more advanced book that goes into more detail about the areas you are most interested in.
For a textbook, I thought this was very well written and easy to understand.
