Trusting myself by honoring (and managing) my feelings

We hear the word "authenticity" being thrown away a lot these days, but what exactly does that mean? What does it mean for someone like me who doesn't care much for pity or prying when I don't feel like being bothered? Even more, what does it mean for someone who consistently advocates the how-to and benefits of feeling good?

This super short, but awesome read, is another dimension to what it means to honor and trust yourself. In addition to stamping out reasons why it's totally okay with not being okay--with choosing not to host a pep rally when you'd prefer to toss the covers over your head and sulk--Akilah gives you practical + customized ways to both identify and manage those feelings as part of your self-care practice.

One of my favorite quotes from the book: "If your relationship with the person can sustain honest conversation, let them know that you're not okay--and that you don't hold them accountable for changing that feeling. Express it to them, so that they can witness you stand up for yourself in that way."

If you don't know how to deal with your "negative emotions" this is a great book to help with practicing emotional wellness. The information is from a different yet effective perspective. The author is encouraging you to give yourself permission to explore your emotions so you can, understand it and then figure out what it's teaching you about yourself, but at your own pace. The tips and additional resources can help you through your emotional healing process. It's a great reminder to focus on self and honor our feelings. Plus it's an easy read with quality information. A must read!

Being okay with NOT being okay is a good thing!

As someone who ALWAYS tries to stay positive and optimistic, I love the idea of being okay with not being okay because honestly, no one is on/okay 100 percent of the time. Not only did Akilah clearly share WHY not being okay is perfectly fine (and advisable), she also provides resources to help you assess your feelings and make peace with them. This book has given me a different perspective, and I'll be sure to use the advice in my own life.
